A collection of soldiers’ stories from Canadian men and women who have served overseas on UN or NATO missions from the end of the Cold War to the present day.

In April, 2007, Matthew Bin began interviewing peacekeeping veterans from across Canada. He interviewed veterans from each major Canadian peace operation, from the 1990-91 deployment in the Persian Gulf to the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan.

These interviews are a raw, honest look at the Canadian peacekeeping experience, through the eyes of the solidiers who are willing to sacrifice themselves for Canada, in the service of peace. They show the day-to-day life of our soldiers abroad, from the dangers of the slums in Haiti, to the desperation and hatred in Bosnia, to the horrors of the Rwandan genocide.

A portion of the proceeds from all sales of On Guard for Thee will be donated by the publisher, Bookland Press, to charities supporting the families of fallen and wounded Canadian soldiers.

Matthew Bin is a writer living in Cambridge, Ontario. He served as a Bombardier in the 11th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, from 1991 to 1994. He graduated from McMaster University, earning a BA in English in 1996 and an MA in English in 1997.
